Do you have questions about the surgical facilities, procedures, equipment or services that we offer at SurgiCare? Below is a list of some frequently asked questions concerning Ambulatory Surgery and SurgiCare, but please feel free to call us if you need additional information. We are always pleased to assist patients and physicians.
An Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) is a medical facility where surgical procedures are performed that do not require a hospital stay. ASC operating rooms will often feature the same surgical equipment as hospitals -- in fact, many times the equipment and instrumentation found at an ASC is even more advanced than that of a local hospital. The environment of an ASC is also much less stressful since the surgeries performed are same-day procedures on healthy people and patients who are not usually suffering from long-term illnesses. Surgeries are not interrupted by outside trauma situations.
Additionally, ASCs are more cost-effective and convenient since they dedicate their resources to specific ambulatory medical procedures only. Patients choosing to have surgery performed at SurgiCare will arrive on the day of the procedure, the surgery will be performed in an operating room, and recovery will take place under the watchful care of our nursing staff and attending anesthesiologists -- all without a hospital admission.
Each year, almost 10 million surgeries are performed at more than 4,800 surgery centers throughout the United States. More than 50% of all surgeries are now performed on an outpatient basis.
An ASC provides a setting for certain same day procedures to be performed in a safe, sterile, comfortable environment within a shortened time frame that would not be possible in a hospital environment. Some of those procedures are; cataract surgeries, most plastic surgeries, colonoscopies, arthroscopic surgeries of all types, ENT and many more. If you are a candidate for surgery ask your physician where your procedure will be scheduled.
There are a variety of reasons. Ambulatory surgery centers such as SurgiCare are often more convenient than hospitals to both doctors and patients. The entire facility is set up to handle same-day surgical procedures, so operations are more streamlined and are independent of other hospital functions. Additionally, ASCs are more cost-effective. They carry less overhead and procedures cost, on average, 47% less than when performed at a hospital according to some studies.
